mojuba is celebrating its 10th release with the resurrection of a real house music classic. we are talking about the legendary record called time reveals by chicago resident and house veteran bernard badie. many of you will remember the title track often mistakenly called >can you feel it< from the infamouse x-mix-5 the wildstyle by dj hell on studio k7! since today bernard badie was working together with friends like larry heard or dajae and delivers his unique house sound for labels like night club records, cajual and circuit records, la casa, distance and recently for tony humphries imprint. check this original house power

incl kai alce rmx !! the third release on fast fwd. a bossa piano driven stomper that gets a fast and cool remix from kai alce (trackmode records) on the a-side. the original mix highlights the percussion and has a more jazzy feel, still very fast paced but not quite as manic. the last track is a mellow groover.

2x 15mins of ultra hypno house!! big with ricardo villalobos, prins thomas, laurent garnier,… unarguably, the best way to prepare umu is inside a hole in the ground. go find a nice flat land, preferably your mother in laws lawn, gather friends, ask them to bring wine. youll need a well amplified turntable playing mania #11 on a loop. cut the grass using a flat shovel, four or six square pieces of 50 cms, lifting the grass with its roots and some soil, move aside. now you have a clean area of about 1.5 mts square, dig in it to a depth of about 50 cms (come on, it will make you sweat profusely but you need this shallow grave to feel the magik of easter islands umu!).

this new russ gabriel 12 is the long awaited kick-off for russ’s new techno imprint, sestra recordings and marks his return to the techno scene. this release follows up the infamous >future funk volume 1< which appeared some 11 years ago on u.k. electronica label >input neuron<. russ is a legend whose career spans nearly 20 years. having started his ferox records back in 1993 he went on to record for the likes of carl craig’s planet-e, soma records, djax-up-beats, dave clarke’s magnetic north, morris audio, force-inc and countless others. russ has been hailed as a master of techno production by djs such as laurent garnier and richie hawtin and continues to push his music forward with this ep aimed firmly at the dancefloor.

imagine ed banger partying with throbbing gristle while donna summer watches from a distance and you are somewhere near to how this sounds, 8 bit backing tracks give it a retro feel while alices vocals are mashed, filtered and processed through various effects pedals sometimes to the point of being incomprehensible.

phonogenics >postcard< is slow burner, building and rising to a eventual climax of melancholic underwater deepness. this song will no doubt be played by those in the later time slots and anyone who wants to add a little journey to their mixes. our main man dex aka dave barker is back with another slice of some quality melodic quirky goodness. >yikes!< has a very chopped up funk/soul feel mixed with solid house beats. studio trickery and a hidden japanese opera helps the track evolve from its soulful beginning to another world entirely. finally, we are very pleased to bring you the first of many musical efforts from amantu wilde. not much is known about amantu as he is a bit of a recluse and does not offer up much information about himself. >g-g-got my eyes on you< is a very retro sounding track reminiscent of some classic new wave jams. pseudo industrial percussion and excellent filter work make this track something to remember. something strange for sure but we think people will like the break from the mod rn sounds

truffle music returns with andrew allsgood at the helm again. the up and coming producer and longtime toronto dj shows his promise once again with this slow grooving funk masterpiece that stretches over 7 minutes. the song travels through many sections and passes, carried the entire time by a driving dub bassline and vocal. for the lovers of deep, dubby and funky house and disco. nycs drrtyhaze (tirk, gomma) are commissioned on the remix and deliver the goods with an up tempo hypnotic stormer that sizzles with its surreal energy and simplicity. drrtyhaze use few elements from the original other than the vocal, taking it into deeper territory with a faster tempo and groove and much more electronic feel to the originals organic vibe.

the enigmatic bulletdodge brings forth their debut release by up and coming glasgow dj/producers loweck, glasgows well known remixer electro voodoo and chicago house legend gene hunt. the >misdirection ep< is an exciting release that conveys vibrant techno magic. the first track to dawn the wax is lowecks original mix, which is a certain floor filler that drives with a dark bassline and explodes with an exciting arpeggio that will cause a frenzy on any dancefloor. track two is electro voodoos mix which is a more deep dubby mix that delivers a more layed back intelligent techno feel. the e.p. culminates with gene hunts mix which, fuses the essence of the original mix with a sub bass line and minimal bleepy effects to create a killer remix. the e.p. has been supported by terrence dixon and k alexi and is set to be a great success in 2008!

back to back killer selection and re works from one of frances hypest dj of the moment. smart re edits of these two hard to find slices of funk wax. original pressings reach stupid prices on ebay like sites... smiling is a belgium disco funk that very few know about. original version going from time to time very cheesy, it really needed a re edit to reach a much deserved club exposure. jammaster is a pretty sought after chicago funk classic, but strangely enough it got a very particular new jersey feel to it, even recalling some early blaze tracks... played and playlisted with the likes of dj cam, inflagranti, orest, pilooski...

thumping house gear from ferrer and sydenham on this 10inch release on ibadan. behind a booming bassline and a little french kiss synth influence as well, double penetration is perfect for that late night floor action, with a little progressive feel in the sweeping synth lines setting it off just right. both mixes glide effortlessly along - in fact if you get 2 copies and play both sides one after the other, the results would be outstanding!

first single to be lifted from the forthcoming lp is a flawless representation of some of the freakishly danceable tracks contained therein. a wholly original mashup of electronics, my heart rate rapid is sheer falsetto laden, drum battering brilliance. although metronomys elliptical, insidious, multi coloured art pop sounds nothing like colognes legendary purveyors of prog disco, can do offer clues to the lineage the band belong to. add early brian eno, sparks, devo, talking heads, soft cell, and then scratch your head for more recent examples of abstract music, full of experiment, risk, and individuality that somehow resolves itself into pop that makes you sing and dance and feel like a big kid and you realise that you cant think of any, because metronomy are, in the current pop milieu, an utterly unique proposition.

superb new 3 tracker. the original a side monster by perc itself is a killer with its driving minimal feel and weighty production. the remix on the flip comes from an excellent production duo currrently delivering some very hot material - bart skillz and anton pieete - aka district one. their reinterpretation adds even more weight to the original and drives the track to a new level. to finish off the ep nicely we have the bonus track - work softer. an excellent package

uks ben wijay starts canute music, a sub-label of phreakin recordings displaying his more adventurous techno and tougher house music concoctions. bringing a slightly harder feel than the phreakin output, but remaining left of centre with quirky melodies groovy percussion. >poisoned potato< starts in dark techno waters with a deep acid bass line, then blossoms into almost border community territory with anthemic distorted chords and quirky breakdowns.>feke< delves deeper with an arrangement that goes from hauntingly minimal into an aggressive staccato riff, then morphing back into itself with deeper melodies. definitely aimed at the 3am dance-floor and will appeal to lovers of the detroit techno sound through to the more obscure villalobos territory. gathering big support from the likes of charles webster, john aquaviva, aldrin and mixmags >house single of the month< (feb 08)
